Those present at the Orientation Days will get the advantage of having the card immediately. Others have to contact their buddy and ask him to go to the card department of the university and help them get the student card that every student of VSB-TUO needs as a proof that he is a student here. You can choose between two kinds of cards: ISIC or regular VSB-TUO Card. ISIC costs 180 CZK. The other card is for free but you have no discounts and can only use it at our university. The choice is up to you.
You will need one of them to identify yourself at the university and it also serves as a student canteen card, card to pay for copying etc. But you first have to load some money to your card - there are three places you can do it:
- by direct transfer via EPS by bank card
- PC Pavilion - dormitory building D, door D120. Open: Monday-Friday, 8:00-12:00 and 14:00-15:00
- Pay by cash in the Card Centre – skool building A, door A148. Open: 8:00 – 11:00 and 12:00 – 16:00.
- Pay by cash in the ground floor of the student canteen. Open during lunch hours.
During the Orientation Days and also afterwards, you will get a chance to buy a SIM Card with a beneficial tariff that we negotiated for all exchange students. You can buy SIM Card in our office every Monday and Wednesday.
ESNcard has nothing to do with university, but will be useful to you in your free time. All the trips, parties, dancing classes and other official ESN events will be cheaper for those who own the ESNcard. Moreover, it serves as a discount card in some shops or bars, too! ODISKA card you get serves as a transportation card. After you fill in your name and other things, you go and get the stamp from school on it. The students of the Faculty of Economics are going to commute between the dorms and faculty frequently by bus or tram. Everyone, who living and studying in Ostrava and using public transportation, need to buy a plastic card ODISka for transport (there will be your photos and some information about you). This card will cost 130 Czech crowns (+ 20 Kč for validating your student status for current academic year). After that you have to buy Ostrava zone (77)
The public transport in Ostrava is very convenient as it consists of 3 kinds of transports – buses, trams and trolleybuses and goes frequently thru all day and also in longer intervals during the night. For long term fares are basically 3 options – 1-month, 3-months and 5-months ticket. The longer the cheaper. Your buddy will help you with buying ODISka and he or she will tell you all important informations. For getting your public transport card, you will need confirmation of your studies at VSB or ISIC card.
The best option is to buy 5-month ticket (for semester, valid from september to january or from february to june) just for 553 Kč.
